EpoxyCalc separates project geometry from product specifications so users can see what is calculated, what is assumed and what comes from a manufacturer.

Rectangular volume

For a rectangular cavity, volume is length × width × depth. Metric dimensions in millimeters are converted to liters by dividing cubic millimeters by 1,000,000.

Irregular river-table volume

In irregular-river mode, width measurements are taken at evenly spaced points along the full river length. EpoxyCalc treats each pair of neighboring measurements as a trapezoidal segment, sums the segment areas and multiplies that plan area by the entered pour depth. This captures changing live-edge width more faithfully than applying one guessed average width to the whole table.

Waste allowance

The user chooses the waste allowance. It is shown separately rather than hidden inside the geometry formula. The allowance is intended to cover practical losses and uncertainty; it does not change the raw geometric volume.

Product compatibility

A product enters the verified catalog only after relevant specifications have been checked against an official manufacturer source. Depending on the project, this can include maximum pour depth, application temperature, mix ratio, pot life, cure guidance and available kit sizes.

When a manufacturer publishes different pour limits for river tables, molds or other casting types, EpoxyCalc stores those limits separately. When pour depth also changes with temperature, the calculator uses a conservative published temperature point instead of presenting one universal maximum depth.

Technical match vs purchase-ready match

A product can be technically compatible even when current pricing or kit-size data is incomplete. In that case EpoxyCalc can show it as a technical match without pretending to know the best purchase combination. Purchase-ready comparisons require enough verified commercial data to calculate a kit plan.

Purchase planning

The kit optimizer compares verified kit sizes for a product and finds a combination that meets or exceeds the required resin quantity. It minimizes purchase cost first and uses lower leftover volume as a tie-breaker.

Where a manufacturer sells by mass but explicitly provides a mass-to-volume approximation, EpoxyCalc marks the resulting liters and leftover amount as approximate instead of silently applying a generic epoxy density.

Best Match, Best Value and Lowest Waste

Best Match is driven first by technical suitability, such as temperature guidance and number of required pours. Best Value and Lowest Waste are only awarded when the complete kit-price set used in the comparison has been verified recently. Price snapshots older than 30 days are automatically excluded from those commercial badges until refreshed.
